Kairos - experimental platform for Postgradute research
KAIROS is the University’s innovative electro-acoustic ensemble, mixing acoustic instruments with live electronics and live sound processing. The ensemble performs in both its own concerts and as part of MANTIS (Manchester Theatre In Sound), and is open to anyone with an interest in performing instrumentally, vocally, in sound manipulation, sound diffusion, computer performance or wanting to engage with the ensemble as a composer. The ensemble works throughout the year in weekly rehearsals to prepare composed mixed works, improvisations and special performance projects.
In 2006-07 KAIROS performed in two full-length concerts, as part of the Sonic Skylines festival devoted to Manchester composers, and were selected to perform in the high-profile 2006 Sonic Arts Expo. Members have also performed as part of the Sonorities Festival in Belfast (another internationally attended electroacoustic festival) and the Futuresonic series in Manchester. Projects for the 2006/7 year include a concert of mixed works by Natasha Barrett, a multimedia theatre project and a gallery installation, as well as student works and improvisations. Also participated at the Postgraduate Induction week for the academic year 2007-08 and will play a major role at the NOVARS Launch, Nov, 2-4 , 2007
